On TV it is very common to have a shy character who gets picked on. Why is that? Because we can relate to it, that’s why!
This is something that all of us have experience with. Whether we were the ones experiencing it, observing it, or perpetrating it.
There is nothing wrong with shyness, this was seen with Jade Elizabeth in The Fury of Tigerclaw. In the second novel of the Adventures of Silver Dove series, Jade Elizabeth is picked on mercilessly just for being shy even though she barely says a word to anybody. So why are they picking on her? Well, me and my background in psychology have a theory that I am willing to share with you.
In the previous blog post, I discussed how bullying is within the mind. For more information take a look since I will be expanding upon that. Within human nature, we want dominance as discussed before. So, how do you establish dominance? By either being really awesome, or by beating someone else down beneath you.
The question is though, what if you are afraid to beat someone down because they might fight back? The answer is simple, find the one who won’t fight back or speak out, the quiet, shy ones. This is the sad truth. These people did nothing wrong, they were just seen as an easy target.
That is why these people should be defended, they were innocent. The shy people who are picked on should feel as if they have some people on their side, that way they can have the strength to stand up for themselves so that they will no longer be the innocent victim. That is the responsibility of all of us.
