Little Bits is a collection of short stories collected by my publisher. Within my story, One Message, you are part of a simple, realistic love story. Here, a girl is simply waiting to see if her crush will use the phone number she gave him to send her at least one message.

Jake Duncan is at the top of his local high school’s social pyramid yet he is still unhappy; he is attracted to the mystery and darkness surrounding the school’s lead freak, a white haired, cat-eyed girl named Alba. When Jake chooses to leave his more popular group for Alba’s group of social outcasts he finds something that he never expected, this group of weird kids is actually a pack of shape-shifters, each one with the ability to transform into an animal at any time they want. As his training to become a shape-shifter starts, he realizes just how mysterious Alba is. She is the leader of this pack but she won’t reveal to Jake how she received her powers or anything at all about her life, a secret that haunts her every waking moment, a secret that she is determined to keep away from this new boy who used to make fun of and torture her friends every day at school. Jake later learns that these kids actually have saved lives more than once without anyone knowing, these shape-shifters use their powers to fight the drug trade along with regular crimes that are rampant in their small town. Soon after Jake joins the pack’s training, they discover that one of the biggest drug dealers in the country is going to be in their town for unknown reasons. The pack doesn’t care why he’s coming, they are just determined to catch him by any means necessary. Determination that could end up causing more harm than good.

The pack has defeated many enemies and ensured the safety of their town no matter what situation arose, but this time they are facing something they never thought they would experience, the exposure of their pack to the world. An old enemy has found out their secret and plans to destroy them using this information and the pack is almost powerless to stop them. As this is happening, the pack has noticed a strange change in Alba, their leader. Alba is facing her worst nightmare, having her pack exposed, and she feels as if she has failed them as a leader, yet something else is wrong with her. Her fear is consuming her and the horrors that she has experienced over the years as the vigilante of her town are starting to overwhelm her. Alba knows that to solve this dilemma, and to help cure her own problem, the pack may have to do something that can’t be reversed, something that could destroy them.

The pack has gone through a lot together and defeated many enemies, but this time the threat is different. This time, the threat lies within. Someone within the pack means to end them, forging an alliance with an enemy that can bring misery and destruction to not just them, but to the town they have dedicated their lives to protecting. While this is going on, Jake and Alba are learning more about each other as a couple. Alba is learning what it is like to be loved while Jake is learning more about Alba’s past and current condition, her struggles, and her issues involving her emotions and relationships with her family as well as him. She doesn’t understand what she feels for him and Jake knows this, creating conflict between them that their relationship may not be able to withstand.

Through all of the pack’s struggles, they have always remained together, but here they stand at their final adventure. Follow Jake and Alba as they make their way through their new lives together, as they experience joy and pain, they learn how to grow into the strong adults they need to be. Even though the pack is moving on with their lives, the old pack in the forest still harbors a deep-seated grudge. They will do whatever it takes to take down the pack, even taking away, or even harming, the most precious part of the pack.

If you had a superpower, what would it be? Would you use it for good, or would you use it for revenge? When Colomba and Luis began their first day of high school, they didn’t expect to be given superpowers in the form of magical pins. Whenever Colomba uses her magical pin, she transforms into the superhero Silver Dove. She has super strength, she can fly, and she can’t get hurt. When Luis uses his pin, he becomes the Crow; he has the power to create shadow- like monsters whenever he wants, he can fly, and he can give other people super powers. Colomba wants to use her powers to protect people from evil, but Luis isn’t sure. Should he use his powers to make the world a better place, or should he use them to get revenge on all of the bullies in his school who pick on everyone, including him?

Fate has been decided. Colomba and Luis have decided how they will use their powers. Colomba will use hers to defend the innocent while Luis will use his to give bullied kids the vengeance he feels they deserve. Luis is determined to reach his goal. There is only one problem though, who will be the first to receive his “gift” of superpowers? As he is trying to find this person, he and Colomba are introduced to the incredibly shy Jade Elizabeth. She is picked on constantly, but never says a word. Could Luis have found his first soldier? Or will Jade Elizabeth refuse the temptation of the power he can give her?

Horror and misery follows Colomba in her dreams as nightmares of the Crow haunt her every time she closes her eyes. No matter what she tries to do, the monsters in her nightmares chase her, not letting her get any rest. As this is happening, the entire school is excited since one of their sports teams, the girl’s track team, will be going to nationals thanks to their star player Cheyanne. An accident sends the entire school into shock and what follows brings Cheyanne from the top of the school popularity pyramid all the way down to be crushed at the bottom. There she may fall into the waiting arms of the Crow.

An unexpected problem has arisen in Colomba’s life. Due to what happened when the Crow last attacked the school, everyone now thinks that she is siding with the Crow and she is now a target of ridicule and hate. Luis sees what Colomba is going through, but is powerless to stop it. He must avoid her to prevent her from being hurt by one of his oldest enemies, something that gives him great pain. As this is going on, Colomba and Luis are introduced to a girl named Rosie who is constantly bullied for something she has no control over. Rosie is autistic and has a hard time understanding the world and everyone in it. Will she let this pain and confusion consume her, or will she fight the temptation the Crow gives her?

Beauty is something that everybody wants, but sometimes it can be more of a curse than a blessing. That is something that Colomba and Luis discover when they meet a young woman named Shay at the county fair. Shay is taking part in a beauty contest at the fair, but not many people are happy about this. Jealousy from the other girls, as well as some crooked dealings with one of the contest’s judges, constantly hurts Shay and her chances of winning in a fair way. Luis believes that maybe she could use a little assistance from the Crow.

High School Rivalry reaches a new high. Friendships are threatened. There’s a new villain in town. Luis and Alex have always hated each other, but now their hatred has reached a boiling point. The school is excited about a big football game that’s coming up, and everyone knows that Alex will be the star of the game. Luis is frustrated seeing everyone treat Alex like a hero when he knows that Alex really is a villain. What makes it worse is that Alex seems to be getting closer to Colomba as well. Maybe Luis just needs to show the world what Alex really is.

Luis has been holding back his feelings for far too long, Valentine’s Day is coming and he decides that will be the day he will finally tell Colomba how he feels. Problems stand in his way though. Alex also wishes to make her his, as well as many other guys in the school. Luis is unsure of what to do, that is until he meets Lexi, a girl made fun of for how she looks. A girl who wishes that everyone would love each other no matter how they look. The Crow may have found the next soldier to help solve Luis’ problem, as well as his other problem, Silver Dove.
