Yes, I do recognize that I’m a bit tardy to the party when it comes to this post, but I still have things to say about it.
Valentine’s Day is supposed to be a day that celebrates the love that you share with someone, a beautiful idea that has sadly started to disappear. Nowadays, Valentine’s seems to be a day for consumerism, buying things for your significant other so you two can show off. In my eyes, this is a tragedy that warps people’s minds in regards to what love truly looks like.
Within my stories, I try to combat this by showing what I believe love really looks like. In my stories, they don’t have these grand gestures or even do anything that seems spectacular. In my stories, they are there to support each other, no matter what. They will be there to either help the person they love or try to lead them in a better direction. They do not control, and they do not idolize each other. They see each other as they really are.
For me, that is what love truly is, and that seems to be forgotten by most in modern day. Hopefully, one day this holiday will go back to what it is supposed to be. I can only pray that this will happen.
