Reasons Behind Bullying

So we have already discussed a theory behind the psychological elements involved in bullying, but let’s examine the life of a person who might bully others.

It is said that hurt people, hurt people. This is a very true statement. Within psychology it is a well known fact that many of the people who harm others are in fact victims of trauma, whether major or minor. This can be seen in places ranging from prisons to our school system. Those who hurt, have been hurt as well.

This concept was explored in the sixth book of the Adventures of Silver Dove series, Facing the Bull-Y. Here we look more at Alex, I won’t reveal anything here since that would spoil things.

Whether the person faced some pain in the past or present, there is usually something present within their life to make them feel like they need to beat others down. This can come from problems at home, in school, or elsewhere but it still affects them and the people they could potentially start bullying.

Does the fact that they are hurt people excuse them from what they are doing to others? Of course not, but we must understand why. Due to what they are experiencing, or have experienced, they may feel that they have lost power within their own lives and beating down someone else can provide them with the feeling of power they feel that they are missing. To fix this problem of bullying, we must help the bully overcome the feelings of powerlessness that they are experiencing, maybe then they can improve how they interact with others.
