Hello everyone, if you read the latest book you will notice that it is all about anxiety disorders and having panic attacks. This story was a bit more personal for me because, growing up, I would have panic attacks pretty frequently, but I didn’t know what they were so I just had to deal with them. I did not figure out what they were until I was a teenager.
Panic attacks are a very frightening thing to experience, as well as witness. If you have an anxiety issue the most important thing is to figure out what triggers your anxiety, and how you can calm yourself within the moment. For me, my main trigger was a feeling of perfectionism that caused me to have these attacks during school for the most part. My main form of relief for my anxiety was doing needlework and exercise.
Within the story, Rick has his attacks during typical stressful situations such as tests or when he fears that he may be attacked. For Rick, his journey towards healing has only begun at the end of the story and he will need to figure out how he can help himself in difficult times.
If any of you feel as if you struggle with anxiety, please speak to a mental health professional, they are trained to help with these situations. Don’t struggle alone, I did that for a very long time and I can tell you that it is not worth it, and it probably won’t work.
